Weeds- Weeds can be and should be fead often these are a big part off the diet and as you can see they vary, so sticking to one (a) weed is not necessary!
Fruit- Fruit should be fead once or twice per week, Redfoots would come across fruit in the wild often,
but should not be a daily feeding ritual.
Vegetables- Vegetables are also a big part off their diet, they can be fead ALMOST daily, If you use the, correct calcium rich vegetables!
Protein- Many People do not believe tortoises as protein eaters...WRONG even desert species have been caught, in the act, protein should be fead once or twice every fortnight, If your tortoise is accomadated outside once a month is fine as they will catch there own night crawlers!
Pellets- Many people like to use Mazuri, But it is extremely hard to get hold off in the UK,
I use the Komodo Fruit and Flower, pellets mixed with Zoo-med forest tortoise food!
**Acidic Fruits should be fead, Rarely if at all!**
Variety is key with Tortoises!
Make sure you are providing Variety!
P.S- A cuttlebone should be added to your enclosure for calcium and to keep your tortoises beak trimmed, you can also sprinkle some cuttlefish onto your tortoises food to make sure they are getting enough calcium, too much calcium....not a problem the calcium not needed will just be urinated out.
Also feeding on slate or a rocky surface can keep a beak well trimmed!
