Water & Humidity!
Water!
Many people believe tortoises can get all their water and liquids from the food they eat...FALSE...though tortoises can get some water and liquids from there food it is not enough for them to survive....most tortoises can go a while with out drinking,
This does not mean that they should!
A waterbowl that the tortoise can fit in will be great for them make sure it is not to deep that they struggle to keep there chin out...about upto where the carapace and plastron meet (Bridge) is fine.
This should be refreshed daily...
Also soakings help...in a bathtub...container...sink...Again water bridge deep it should be luke warm!
(Not too hot not too cold!) they should be in for about 20-30 minutes...
Hatchlings should be bathed daily older tortoises 3-4x per week adults x2 a week!
Humidity!
Redfoots need a high humidity coming from a rainforest...about 70%-80% but they should have a dry area of substrate to prevent shell rot...it should be damp and not wet to touch this could also can cause shell rot.
Humidity can be achieved in a number off ways...
A ...
Humid Hide- A hide that can hold humidity with a damp substrate (e.g moss) under a heat source to make the humid hides substrate dry out slowly and this causes condensation.
Plants- A well planted enclosure can help keep humidity levels up..
Spraying- Spraying your enclosure a couple of times per day.
Fogger- A low generating fog machine that causes a damp, humid low cloud off fog.
Lid- You can try cover up the enclosure with plexiglass, plastic etc...
I use a fogger a waterfall, one humid hide and i give a SHORT spray daily!
